New-construction water treatment means designing and roughing in the plumbing, drain, power and space for treatment equipment while the walls are open — whether or not the equipment is installed at completion.

How the technology works
What roughing in involves
Space. A dedicated area in the garage, utility room or mechanical space, sized for the equipment the water may need, with service clearance. This is the item most often forgotten, and the most expensive to fix afterwards.
A loop in the supply line. Supply and return stubs with isolation valves, so equipment can be added later without cutting into finished plumbing.
A drain with an air gap. Softeners, iron filters and neutralizers all backwash to drain. Adding a drain to a finished garage is disproportionately expensive.
Power. An outlet at the equipment location for control valves and UV.
An RO line to the kitchen. Running a line to the sink and to the refrigerator during construction is trivial. Doing it afterwards means cabinets and finished floors.
A hard-water branch, if outside taps should stay unsoftened. Easy at rough-in, awkward later.
New wells
A newly drilled well should be tested after development and disinfection, and before the treatment train is finalised. Testing too early, before the well has settled, produces results that do not represent what the well will actually deliver.
Municipal connections
Even where the supply is treated municipal water, roughing in is worth doing. Buyers increasingly expect it, tankless heaters frequently specify hardness limits, and a rough-in is a small line item at framing.

Why the right system depends on your actual water
On new construction the equipment decision usually comes after the water exists to test, which is exactly why roughing in the infrastructure first is the sensible order.
This is the reason we test first. Two properties a mile apart in Northwest Arkansas can need entirely different equipment — one on treated surface water from Beaver Lake, one on a private well drawing from fractured Ozark limestone. Even two wells on the same road can differ, because in karst geology they may be drawing from different water. A recommendation made without your numbers is a recommendation made about somebody else’s house.

Available space, incoming pipe size, water pressure, a drain for backwash or reject water where the technology needs one, power, and how many fixtures might run at once. These decide what will physically work.

On a municipal connection we can plan from the utility's water quality data and confirm with a test at completion. On a new well, testing happens after the well is developed and disinfected — results taken too early do not represent the finished well.
Installation
NWA Water Pros specifies and supplies your system. Installation is performed by an independent licensed plumbing contractor.
We test your water, recommend a system, and supply the equipment. The physical plumbing installation is completed by an independent plumbing contractor who is separately licensed by the State of Arkansas and carries their own insurance. We coordinate the schedule and stay involved through startup and testing, but the installing contractor is responsible for the plumbing work and warrants their own labor.
Rough-in work is coordinated with the plumbing contractor and the build schedule. Equipment installation happens at or after completion, once the water has been tested.
Plan at design stage
Allocate the space before the mechanical layout is fixed. This is the cheapest moment in the whole project.

Permits and code
Plumbing work in Arkansas is regulated, and connecting treatment equipment to a potable supply has to be done to code — including backflow protection and a properly configured air gap on any drain connection. Ask whoever installs your system, whether that is us or anyone else, how they are handling both.
Maintenance and replacement schedule
New systems still need servicing from the first year. Handover documentation covering what is installed, what it does and when each component is due is part of doing this properly.

These are typical intervals for this category of equipment. The actual schedule for your system comes from the manufacturer’s documentation and from your own water conditions — heavier loading means shorter intervals. We will not promise a replacement interval for a product we have not specified against your test results.
Certifications and performance claims
The same NSF/ANSI standards apply as in retrofit work. On new construction there is an additional consideration: NSF/ANSI 61 and 372 cover the safety and lead content of materials in contact with drinking water, which matters for the plumbing being installed as well as for the treatment equipment.
Local code requirements around backflow prevention and drain air gaps apply to the rough-in and should be confirmed with the plumbing contractor and the authority having jurisdiction.
How we handle contaminant-reduction claims
We will not tell you that a system removes a contaminant. We will show you what a specific model is certified to reduce, and under which standard. Certification is granted for named substances tested under a defined protocol — a product certified for chlorine taste and odour has demonstrated nothing about lead, and a product certified for lead has demonstrated nothing about PFAS unless the listing says so.
Ask any company for the performance data sheet for the exact model they are quoting. If they cannot produce one, that tells you something.
What affects the cost
We do not publish prices for this on the website, and we want to explain why rather than just leaving a gap. A number quoted before anyone has seen your water or your utility room is a guess, and guesses in this industry are usually optimistic in the brochure and corrected upward on the day. These are the factors that genuinely move the figure:
